 Subsequent to its marked success of Train 1&2, managed and operated by Oman LNG, the
Government of Sultanate of Oman embarked on establishing a third train. The train is owned by the newly formed company, Qalhat LNG S.A.O.C.
This Train is constructed adjacent to the 2 Trains facilities in eastern town of Qalhat, near Sur, some 350 Kms from the capital, Muscat. It is operated by Oman LNG to enable the sharing of some of the already existing facilities.
Since the beginning of the works in the first quarter
of 2003, Qalhat LNG project has been achieving pacesetter performance on many fronts. Completion ahead of its contractual 34-month schedule, well below budget, lowest cost seen in recent times, highest Omanisation (recruitment of indigenous workers) record in the field of constructions, and with a world class HSE record of no LTI (Lost Time Injury) in around 20 million man-hour. Qalhat LNG plant capacity is expected to reach 3.7 Million Tons per annum.
Like its neighboring plants, Qalhat LNG is a model of His Majesty’s wise policies to diversify the economy, and as expected, it’s a major force in the sustainable development drive.
Qalhat LNG has set its vision, mission and values during its first year of operation that clearly support management’s motto in running an organisation with excellence. The Qalhat LNG Management Team has worked hard in order to maximise shareholders values which is already evident through their achievements since the operations commenced.
Qalhat LNG’s eager to achieve excellence was internationally recognized when was awarded the “Company of the Year 2006” by Petroleum Economist and the “Best in Project Finance” by the Excellence in Energy Awards 2008. This international and regional recognition reflects the prestigious status of the company within the international energy arena.
Qalhat LNG, now, stands as a source of pride for the Sultanate, consolidating Oman’s leading international position as a reliable producer of LNG. Its impact on the socio-economic front is significant and multifaceted, giving shape to the future.
